A VERY DIFFERENT DEFENSE FOR DR. HAKEY

Certainly not the way he would have thought it would happen, but Brett successfully defended his dissertation today. As one of the first graduate students at WVU, the defense was conducted via Zoom. Clearly, there is nothing that Brett cannot handle. Excellent job!

MINH'S FIRST PAPER NOW OUT IN CHEMCOMM

With the final data collected just hours before the COVID-19 shutdown, Minh reports the first zirconium cyclobutadienyl complex. The synthesis is enabled exclusively through a photochemical approach. Congratulations, Minh!

Our most recent paper in collaboration with the Castellano group at North Carolina State University and the Scholes lab at Princeton reveals the nature of the emission in our zirconium complexes and introduces an air-stable photocatalyst based on the Earth-abundant metal zirconium.

In this article published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Yu provides “Mechanistic Insight into Photoinduced Single-Electron Transfer”. The study allows a deeper understanding of the photoredox reactivity of zirconium photosensitizers first discovered in our lab in 2016.
